Mostafa Yavari (also known as Mostafa Yavari Ayin) is a Ph.D. candidate specializing in the history of astronomy in the medieval Islamic world. His research focuses on astronomical tables (Zijes) and their relationship with astronomical models.
Yavari’s master’s thesis examined tables of planetary latitude in Ulugh Beg’s Zij (زیج الغ بیگ). His current research program includes:
- Analysis of planetary tables in Ulugh Beg’s Zij (also known as Zij al-Sultani)
- Exploring the connections between astronomical tables and astronomical models during the medieval era
- Critical study of medieval commentaries on Zijes, particularly those by Ali Qushji and Birjandi on Ulugh Beg’s Zij
- Study the Samarkand astronomical school and the operations of the Samarkand Observatory
He is recognized for his expertise in reading and interpreting medieval astronomical tables, deciphering their structure, and extracting astronomical data.
